Milano is the capital of this northern Lombardy and is famous as being the city of design in furniture and of course famously, fashion. It is the city of the catwalks and the great centre of the fashion world of Europe. If you are serious about shopping and fashion designers, you have to go to Milan. It is also the centre of the huge fieri – the big expositions of furniture and design products as well as the economic centre of industry in Italy. If you love design go visit the Design Museums in Milan. It is without a word very trendy and chic!!

Fabics and textiles are also here with artisans designing fabrics still in the old fashioned way as the northern Lakes district was the centre of the silk industry in the past. In the town of Como, fine silk is still produced, to be used in exquisite designs and expensive labels. Visit the silk museum to see the ancient tools that were used.

We also feature the beautiful Lake district – Lake Maggiore and Lake Como, areas of magnificent scenery with mountains rising straight up from the lakes. It is wonderful to drive around , or take the ferries across, with lovely little villages such as Bellagio and Cenobbio set on the shores of the lakes. Cremona and Mantova are also jewels as are Ferrara and Ravenna.
