Boutique Bed & Breakfast

Boutique B&B is intimate townhouse accommodation with designer style and highly personalised service.

Milanese owner Patrizia Marchetti spent 4 years restoring this 15th-century palazzo near the port, before opening it to friends and select guests. She still keeps her apartment on the 2nd floor, but the 1st and 3rd floors have been transformed into 7 immaculate and indulgent bedrooms, with space for a small breakfast room and terrace up top. BBB is recommended whole-heartedly to anyone seeking style and seclusion in this bustling and underrated city.

Other Information

There's a playful combination of contemporary design and salvaged antiques in the 7 boldly conceived bedrooms: plexiglass Starck chairs sit next to a tall gilt-framed mirror, an ornate candelabra flickers beneath a glass-bauble light-cube by Ingo Maurer, and in the middle of one bathroom stands Matteo Thun's famous egg-shaped bathtub made of almond shells and resin.

Colours are neutral and natural: grey, beige, taupe, with occasional bursts of blue-white-striped wallpaper to keep you on your toes. Beds are wide and firm, flanked by steel-armed Tolomeo lamps and glass-and-chrome Eileen Gray tables. Thick walls and double glazing keep traffic noise to a minimum. Bathrooms are well done out, with coloured mosaique (Byzantine glass) tiles, marble sinks, glass shower cabinets and hairdryer.

Pride of place goes to the Orangerie suite – that of the Thun-tub – whose bedroom has space for a sofa, kitchenette and small dining table as well as its grey-dressed double bed. The 4 deluxe rooms (3 on the 3rd floor, 1 on the
1st) are a little smaller (typically 25m²), and have a shower instead of a tub.

Mandarino has a small terrace with sinuous wicker recliners looking onto a loquat tree; Bergamotto (also with terrace) is a study in cool greys; Zagara has the smart navy-white-striped walls and matching mannequins to hang your newly purchased clothes on; coffee-coloured Limone has Starck chairs and full length mirror beside its double bed and Ingo Maurer chandelier on which you can scribble a romantic note.
